Exploring Roof Builds, Techniques and Tools

Hey everyone, my name is Patricia Brown, but everyone calls me Trish. I will use this site to explore residential roofing materials and building techniques. Roofs protect the home from the elements and provide a stylistic touch unmatched by any other feature. There are a wide range of materials used for roof construction, including copper, asphalt and tile shingles. Even the hardware varies considerably depending on which type of roof you'd like for your home. Every roofer has their own set of tools and techniques used to complete the job. Roofers may utilize high tech tools to measure grades and find leaks. I could go on forever about roofs, so I created this site for my ideas and discoveries about this fun industry. I'd love for you all to follow along with my journey through roof exploration. Welcome!

Keeping Your Garage Secure When Using A Door Opening Device

If you have a garage to house your vehicle and personal belongings, you most likely wish to keep these items safe from the possibility of being stolen from this area. Using a garage door opener is a great way to gain access to your garage in a convenient way; however, there are some safety precautions you will want to take to ensure access to the interior of your garage is not obtained by a thief when using one. Here are a couple of tips you can use to help keep your garage secure from theft when using a garage door opener.

Purchase The Right Type Of Opening Device

Garage door openers are made with your security in mind; however, older models do not have as many security features in place as current openers on the market. For this reason, it is best to refrain from hooking up an older device. Since devices from a decade or more ago did not have individual coding capabilities, two people with the same model could interchangeably open each other's garage doors. Newer models allow a code to be used to engage the opener. Look for a mode with a rolling code feature. This type of garage door opener will give you a numerical code to use to gain access to your garage. The number will change with each opening, taking away the risk of someone finding out the code you regularly use.

Refrain From Keeping the Device In Plain View

Most people will put their garage door opening device inside of their vehicle so they can use it as they ascend down their driveway toward their vehicle's parking area. If you place your garage door opener on your dashboard or visor, it will be seen by people who walk past your vehicle when it is parked. All it will take is a quick grab if you had forgotten to lock your vehicle. Placing your garage door opener in a spot a thief would be unlikely to search is best. Consider stashing the device under your driver's seat so it is still within reach but out of the view of your window area. Placing it in your trunk is another idea, although this will require you to get out of your vehicle to utilize it. The benefit of placing it in this area is that it can be locked inside where it will not be easily accessed by a potential thief.
