Exploring Roof Builds, Techniques and Tools

Hey everyone, my name is Patricia Brown, but everyone calls me Trish. I will use this site to explore residential roofing materials and building techniques. Roofs protect the home from the elements and provide a stylistic touch unmatched by any other feature. There are a wide range of materials used for roof construction, including copper, asphalt and tile shingles. Even the hardware varies considerably depending on which type of roof you'd like for your home. Every roofer has their own set of tools and techniques used to complete the job. Roofers may utilize high tech tools to measure grades and find leaks. I could go on forever about roofs, so I created this site for my ideas and discoveries about this fun industry. I'd love for you all to follow along with my journey through roof exploration. Welcome!

5 Extra Services To Ask Your Junk Removal Provider About

If you have a pile of junk in your yard, are about to finish a construction project, or have items to remove from a home or storage unit, your biggest priority is most likely having the items removed quickly. However, before you call a junk removal agency, you should think about some of the extra services that are offered. These extra services can save you money, help the environment, and make sure that your items go where you want them to.

Junk Appraisal

Sometimes, your junk may be worth more than you think. From recyclable metals to pieces of art found in old storage sheds, you may have items in your junk pile that can pay for the cost of your junk removal if you sell them as opposed to throwing them away. However, you may not have the time, ability, or expertise to sort through your junk to find items that are worth selling.

Some junk removal services will provide an appraisal of your junk for an extra fee. An appraiser will be sent with the removal team to set aside items that are suspected to have significant value. Some companies also offer to help you sell valuable items through auctions or on consignment. Appraiser fees vary and may be a flat fee or a percentage of the value of items that are found in your junk.

Donation Services

Perhaps you do not have anything worth significant value in your junk but you do have items that are still usable and could be appreciated by another owner. Some removal services partner with local non-profits to help you donate these items as opposed to throwing them away. This can include items such as furniture, electronics, and clothing.

If you request that your items be donated when possible, make sure that the removal service provides you with a receipt of donation from the non-profit where your items end up. This may be able to be used as a tax deduction.

Hazardous Material Removal

Most dumps charge extra fees to drop off hazardous materials, and some municipalities require junk removal agencies to have a license to handle items such as paint, gas, and other flammable or hazardous materials. Your junk removal service may be able to remove these items for an additional fee. If they are unable to do so, they may be able to make arrangements with another removal service that specializes in hazardous materials.

Holiday or Weekend Removal

Perhaps you need to be there when the junk is removed from your premises so you need a weekend pickup. Or maybe you are hosting a festival on a holiday and you need the junk removed from that area before the next working day. For whatever reason, it is important to make sure that your junk removal service offers holiday or weekend pickup and make sure that you are able to cover the cost of any extra fees associated with pick ups outside of normal working hours.

Hoarding Assistance

If you or a loved one hoards items, you may find that you experience shame and sadness regarding the amount of stuff in your home. This can make it difficult to request removal services even after you have sought psychological treatment and are ready to part with your belongings. Some junk removal services offer special packages for hoarding situations. This can include triage of belongings to make sure only the items the hoarder is willing to part with are removed and a discrete, unmarked truck to help reduce shame or anxiety associated with the removal services.

When calling to schedule junk removal services with a company like The Dump Guy, make sure to ask what extra services the company offers.
